While the appearance of other names on a background check report can be alarming, it is actually a common occurrence.
There are several common scenarios wherein a user’s name may appear alongside other names:
- The user entering information into the database typed something incorrectly.
- The user entering information into the database associated a name with a wrong social security number.
- At some point in time, the other person(s) listed on the report incorrectly used or incorrectly entered a social security number that matches the user’s (usually by accident).
A less common circumstance is fraud. If you have reason to believe fraud has occurred, consider advising the user to undertake a free credit check and contact the primary credit bureaus (Equifax, Transunion, Experian) to resolve the matter.
